Preschool Program
Our preschool program consists of three classrooms serving first two year olds, then threes and finally four year old children. Each classroom serves as an integral building block to the next with the four year old classroom finalizing your child’s preparation for a school environment.
Our two year olds continue their growth in the “Busy Bee Room”. This classroom is organized as our first stage preschool room as it prepares the children for the increased academic learning they will do in the three and four year old preschool classrooms. The Busy Bees participate in daily academic activities designed to lay the foundations for learning basic knowledge such as colors, shapes, and the alphabet. The Busy Bee teachers present the children with numerous different activities throughout the day which give the children ample opportunity to explore different interests and work on their cognitive and basic motor skills. It is in the Busy Bee Room where the children at Renaissance begin to hone their communication skills and become better communicators to everyone they interact with. While some children may begin potty training in the Busy Bee Room we do not require that children begin potty training until the parents believes they are ready. We feel that potty training is a stage that each child goes through at a different time regardless of their cognitive abilities. Children will become potty trained when they are ready. Combined, the Busy Bee teachers have been with Renaissance for over 30 years. They serve as a great example of the devotion our staff has for the care of your child.
Once a child turns three years old they move into the second stage of our preschool program, the Starfish Room. The teachers in the Starfish Room bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the classroom including backgrounds in early childhood and elementary school education as well as pre-K aged children. This program is a literacy building program with the goal of graduating children to the 4 year old classroom who are in the beginning stages of reading and ready to jump into the world of organized schooling. The staff works to ensure that the children understand a typical daily schedule in an academic program as well as the types of work children do when they start kindergarten. Through a mixture of play-based, independent, and teacher orchestrated activities, the Starfish children learn the skills necessary for literacy. Print and phonemic awareness are at the heart of our program. As the children pick up those skills they are presented with new challenges that push them slightly further each day.
Four year olds at Renaissance put the “finishing touches” on their preschool education in the “Dolphin Room”. Here they continue to work in a play-based environment supplemented with the same math and reading curriculum programs used in public school K4 programs. More than any other classroom, the Dolphin Room works to help children understand the atmosphere in a school environment as well as the expectations that they will find when they move onto the next stage of their education. The Dolphin Room schedule is flexible in that we can easily accommodate families looking for full-day care as well as those with children in half-day kindergarten programs. In either case you will find that the Dolphin Room is the perfect complement to what your child learns at home and at school.
Year after year feedback from former Renaissance families overwhelmingly indicates that children who “graduate” from our program are consistently above the standards expected of them by Milwaukee area public and private schools.
